"Christian Liberals" and Health Care
Today the supreme court of the land gave it's ruling on the healthcare issue, popularly known as 'Obamacare.' We had expected the total rejection of the bill, or at least a partial rejection, but instead the worst part of the bill, the individual mandate, was upheld as being a 'tax.' Some lawyers and politicians felt that the court had rewritten the law in doing so. President Obama had always held that it would not be a tax! The court rewrote the mandate provision as being a tax, so the bill is okay, since congress is allowed to tax!
As aggravated as I felt over the ruling as a loss of personal freedom or being forced to buy insurance (which we have anyway), I do not feel qualified to argue on all the pro's and cons of the bill. I haven't read the bill, so I have only been informed of such things like, premiums will be going up or there will be a shortage of doctors and the ones who remain will be forced to take on more patients, etc. But, today I felt incensed upon reading a tweet how Christian "leftists" who were overjoyed with the healthcare bill, were saying things like "Jesus would be so much in line with their thinking that there would be free healthcare and so many people could have good care as their personal right!"
Here is a quote from NCC President Kathryn M. Lohre: " We as churches follow the bold example of Jesus, who healed the sick, sometimes breaking the religious law that governed society." Another post read, "Jesus was clear," Matt 10:8, Heal the sick raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give."
What a travesty of the meaning of the scriptures! They took those scriptures totally out of context! Jesus was speaking to the disciples, not to the Romans, or the general public! Maybe I am old-fashioned, but I believe that Jesus only spoke the word, and people were healed by him! He was God, and did not have to have a hospital with which to do his healing. He did not ask for money to cure people, but He did see 'faith 'in the believer because He was divine and knew their inward thoughts. He did not ask us to do the healing, as it is through faith in HIM that we are healed. Healing is through Jesus! Trusting in a godless government to rule over us, to issue our healthcare edicts is not putting our trust in God! Christianity cannot align with abortions, same-sex marriages and the like, yet the Christian leftists are trying to reconcile all that corruption with Christ. Someone wrote that there is no such thing as Christian leftism. It is an oxymoron.
Years ago, many Pentecostals and even other faiths, believed we should trust God for our healing or die! While we do not go that far nowadays, we should at least give God a chance to heal us. Many people are hypochondriacs, constantly sick for many reasons. Infirmities of the body have been with us for as long as our history, but never have we seen such demands from society for their 'rights' to quality healthcare. During the depression, there weren't many people looking for these types of 'rights' when food was scarce, and the standard of living was very poor. Amazingly though, it seemed that many people had a lot more self respect in those days and would rather almost starve than take a handout from the government. Today, we read that there are actually parties going on to show people how to get food stamps! The fraud is unreal, yet, many good people are not aware of the gross corruption with the spending of our tax dollars. A nation that becomes selfish, agnostic and forgetful of God will be turned into hell. Hypocrisy in government is sad, but to me, it is even sadder when people use God's scriptures to distort and bolster their evil deeds.
I know we do not have to defend our God, and even as disgusted as it made me feel when I read how people take the Lord's words out of context, I do not have to fight them, or scream at them, but must pray that they will learn Jesus does not need their 'instruments' of healing! He is a miracle healer! Doing good things for people is great, but we must not get mixed up that any medicine or healthcare can take the place of God's miraculous healing! God does not want us to take the glory away from Him either! He is the healer, and we are only carriers of faith! There are many God-fearing doctors that have witnessed total miracles, and are humble enough to admit that it was a superior power that healed a person!
Good people are wringing their hands, for it seems as there is no reasonableness anywhere! God gives us peace, and He is our refuge in the midst of a storm. The uncertainty in the world shows us that our redemption 'draweth nigh.' He is our Healer!
